What is TouchBistro?

TouchBistro is a complete mobile POS solution on the iPad for the restaurant industry. It allows users to manage reservations, view the menu, take orders and review sales reports with a few simple touches. Instead of servers repeatedly moving between customers and terminals for order management, servers can remain with customers and instantly submit orders to the kitchen and bar. Servers no longer need to write down an order and then enter it into a distant terminal. TouchBistro's single entry system reduces errors and increases efficiency. Menu items can be presented in vibrant color with every detail captured. Menus can be quickly and easily updated and even published to the Web.

Users of TouchBistro have provided several recommendations based on their experiences with the POS system. The three most common recommendations are as follows:

  1. Utilize the free help and excellent customer service provided by TouchBistro. Many users have found the customer service provided by TouchBistro to be outstanding. They recommend taking advantage of the free help and support offered by the company, as it has proven to be valuable in resolving any issues or answering questions promptly.

  2. Invest time in thorough research on hardware and set-up. Some users advise doing thorough research on the hardware requirements before purchasing TouchBistro or having someone knowledgeable assist with the setup process. This is important to ensure that the system runs smoothly and meets the specific needs of the business.

  3. Consider personal needs and wants when choosing a POS system. While many reviewers highly recommend TouchBistro as a great value and a complete POS system, they also advise prospective buyers to consider their personal needs and wants when selecting a POS system. Each business is unique, so it is important to evaluate specific requirements such as inventory control and automation of service before making a decision.

Overall, users have had positive experiences with TouchBistro, finding it intuitive to use daily, easy to set up and modify as business needs evolve. It is recommended for new restaurants due to its affordability and completeness as a POS system. However, users also caution about the time required for implementation for first-time users and emphasize the need for thorough research on hardware compatibility.

We use TouchBistro as our POS in our bar & restaurant. We have unique problem as our kitchen is actually located in a separate building, which causes communication and logistics issues. We use the TouchBistro kitchen display functionality in the kitchen as well as in the wait area so that orders are sent to the kitchen, and the wait staff can fire another course once the guests are ready. We set the system up so that only food orders go to the kitchen and drink orders go to the bar. The system is very user friendly in this regard.
  • Allows the user to set up specific food modifiers that can be used on one or more menu items.
  • Displays the kitchen orders and tracks the time they were received and shows alerts when time is getting late
  • Reporting on staff hours and breaks taken.
  • Flexibility with different tax options.
  • Splitting checks multiple ways
  • Inventory management is confusing and difficult to set up
  • Ability to search for and select one or more specific menu items and report sales on same.
  • The restriction to using only iPads and the high additional charges for adding more. These become prohibitive for us to work efficiently.
For a small business like ours, it works very well, is very user friendly, but the cost to add more tablets so that we can keep one at the bar, one on the interior dining area and one on the outside dining area is difficult as they have to be iPads, and there is an additional cost to add another tablet for use on the floor.
  • Handling orders and sending them to the kitchen and bar as they are taken.
  • Maintaining sales history and reporting
  • Managing staff hours and reporting
  • Being new to the industry, and not having a good handle on what the sales would be, TouchBistro has provided us with the ability to see the sales grow from day 1 to present.
  • We have been able, using the ability to report sales trends by category to share the profitability of the bar area vs the kitchen area with the respective managers and create a type of competition between them.
  • The Return on Investment on the system is becoming easier to see now with our continued growth over the early months where it felt like a bit of a hurdle. I use many of the reports to show the success and continued growth of the business to my partner and staff.
TouchBistro was the first product we looked at for this business.

We used Touch Bistro for two years and it was extremely user-friendly. Being an iOS-based software, it was easy for staff to learn. The software can be used on iPad's of various sizes to make it convenient for you particular setup. Depending on your particular needs, I feel like this would be a good fit.
  • Easy to learn being iOS-based
  • Being cloud-based, your product mix, as well as your detailed modifier list, is available immediately
  • Able to access reports, sales, hours, etc. from mobile app
  • Being iOS based, there can be glitches related to updates. Towards the end, we had issues related to the last two updates and had to wait for Apple to put out a fix.
  • The software does run off of a Mac Mini, so you have to be careful that staff does not update the individual iPad's before the Mac Mini is updated. Updating the iPads without updating the Mac Mini will result in your software not working.
  • Though there is an iPhone app to view reports, there is not one that would allow you to ring in orders. If your staff, like mine, doesn't wear aprons you may have a few broken iPads on your hands from trying to carry too many items.
This truly depends on what your specific needs are. For us, we needed a point-of-sale that offered a better handheld option since we cash guests out at the table with the device to limit printing checks. If your establishment doesn't do table-side transactions, then that's a non-issue. We also had an issue with the card readers breaking off in the charging port which resulted in useless iPads or having to trade them in. This isn't necessarily the fault of TouchBistro, but it was a factor in us not renewing our contract.
  • The software is easy to understand and use
  • We could not find a case for the iPads that would also fit the third party card reader so we went without. This resulted in card readers breaking off in the charging port rendering the iPad useless.
  • Reports were available in real time, so it was extremely easy to see sales and make quick decisions.
Toast does their own credit card processing in house, so we didn't have to deal with a third party. It streamlined things for us and gave us access to options that we didn't have with TouchBistro as a quick service Taproom. Again, both are great, it truly comes down to your setup and needs.

I use TouchBistro in our craft brewery’s tasting room. It is our POS system, time clock, finished product inventory manager, and metrics aggregator. TouchBistro provides a reliable, fast, and easy interface to process payments at our bar-- cash or credit cards. We can also easily create and manage tabs. Due to the portable nature of this POS, we can also take customers' orders at their tables.
  • Very fast transaction times; I do not need to wait for the credit slip printer to respond, it is almost instantaneous.
  • I can add, delete, or modify menu items on the fly and in real time in literally a handful of seconds.
  • TouchBistro provides an intuitive and easy way to check my tasting room’s metrics in real time from anywhere on the globe.
  • My employees are able to access a customized menu of item modifiers and discounts very quickly and easily.
  • There needs to be a way to stop TouchBistro from printing a customer copy every credit card transaction. Nobody wants this copy and I’m using double the amount of thermal paper
Honestly, I cannot think of a business that couldn’t benefit from using TouchBistro with its ability to have hundreds of items and how it can read UPC codes using the tablet's camera.
  • The ROI is fantastic. Before TouchBistro we used a cash register with a paper tape and stand-alone credit terminal. Average transaction times were around 30-45 seconds. A long awkward time for a customer to stand and wait.
  • Because of the ability to almost instantly bring up the day/week/month’s metrics, I can plan and accurately schedule labor to accommodate the ebbs and flows of customers.
TouchBistro beat them all with its intuitive interface, ease of use, and economical costs.

We use TouchBistro for our small cafe/to-go foods business. It is used by our front of house salesmen to check out customers and log catering orders. TouchBistro helps us to maintain tight control of resources with its recipe and ingredients tracker. We can easily perform audits with the ability to run various reports with just a few clicks. It is also very helpful in managing employees!
  • Ingredient tracking
  • Cloud reporting
  • Easy to run reports
  • Running weekly, customizable reports automatically sent to your preferred e-mail
  • Recipe tracking & menu entry must be done on the iPad, and it would be much easier if it was possible to input it via the online cloud!
After a month or two, we thought that TouchBistro wouldn't be well suited for our business because we don't function like a typical restaurant. However, after having some time to really explore all of the features, AND the fact that TouchBistro is often adding new features and updates, we have been really impressed with the control we have over our business because of using the TouchBistro system.
  • Positive- control over ingredients
  • Positive- ability to monitor sales and better forecast in order to reduce waste
  • Negative- it is expensive for our small business
We have not used other products, but when researching other products, the TouchBistro interface seemed much more user-friendly and that is why we selected TouchBistro.

It is the POS, time recording, COGS and sales reporting for our restaurant at Summerhill Farm located at 24013 US 71 Park Rapids MN 56470
  • Very clean and simple setup for initial installation.
  • Greatly reduced training of new servers. Average of 15 minutes and new serves were able to enter and process orders.
  • We are a seasonal business and TouchBistro allows us to suspend our account when we are closed and turn back on when we open without any additonal fees.
  • Time card reporting should be in hundredths instead of 60 minute. This would allow payroll reporting to 3rd parties to be simpler.
Well suited for any type of restaurant, don't know of a scenario where it wouldn't work well.
  • Biggest impact is reduced training time for new hires.
  • Better accuracy on food orders.
After evaluating all of them I selected TouchBistro
